How to Make Creativity a Natural Part of Everyday Life (No Art Skills Needed!)

Creativity Is for Everyone—Even You!

Let’s be real—when you hear the word creativity, what comes to mind? Painting? Sculpting? Artists? You perhaps think it is a mythical talent you’re either born with or not?

For many people who don’t see themselves as artistic, creativity can feel intimidating and uncomfortable. Maybe you were told as a kid that you weren’t "artistic.” When you actually consider it, perhaps you think creativity is for otherpeople—those who can draw, paint, or come up with mind-blowing ideas out of thin air.

But here’s the truth: Creativity has been part of your life since day dot, you just might not have noticed it yet. And today, I’m going to show you how to recognise it and make it an effortless part of your everyday (no fancy ‘arty’ skills required!).

What Creativity Really Is (And Isn’t)

❌ Creativity is NOT:

  • Only for "artistic" people.

  • About making something perfect.

  • A big, overwhelming process that requires talent or expensive supplies.

✅ Creativity IS:

  • About thinking differently, playing, and experimenting.

  • Something we all naturally do—yes, even you!

  • A skill that gets stronger the more you use it.

Think of creativity like a muscle—the more you stretch it, the more flexible it gets. And the best part? You don’t need to create some gallery worthy masterpiece. You just need to start noticing and trying small things.

How You’re Already Creative (Without Realising It!)

Even if you don’t think of yourself as a "creative person," I bet you’re already using creativity in your daily life. You’re being creative when you:

🎤 Make up a silly song to entertain your child.

🍳 Throw together a meal with random ingredients from the fridge.

🛋 Rearrange your living room for a fresh new vibe.

Select what outfit or accessories you will wear for the day

📩 Find a creative way to make a routine task more fun—whether it’s housework, another work meeting, or the third kids' birthday party this weekend!

✨ See? You’re already creative. Now, let’s make it intentional.

Science backs this up! According to the American Psychological Association, creativity isn’t just for artists. It’s a fundamental skill that anyone can develop. (source)

5 Super Simple Ways to Add More Creativity to Your Day

(No time, talent, or supplies required!)

1️⃣ The 2-Minute Doodle Break 🎨

  • Grab a pen and paper.

  • Set a timer for 2 minutes (or do this while waiting for your coffee to brew).

  • Doodle anything—a shape, a pattern, a face, numbers, a dog with sunglasses.

  • Done? Amazing. You just made something that didn’t exist two minutes ago and something that is unique to YOU. 🎉

2️⃣ Change One Tiny Thing in Your Routine 🔄

  • Drink your coffee with the opposite hand.

  • Brush your teeth with your eyes closed.

  • Walk a different route home than usual.

  • These small changes spark up your brain and make you think in new ways.

3️⃣ Use Your Senses in a New Way 👀👂👃

  • Eat or smell something with your eyes closed.

  • Turn an everyday sound into a beat, a pattern (e.g., tapping your fingers while waiting in line).

  • Take 5 minutes to observe something really closely (shadows on the ground, how your tea swirls in the mug and the colours mix when you add milk).

4️⃣ Play the “What Else Could This Be?” Game 🤔

  • Pick up a random object (pen, mug, paperclip).

  • Ask yourself: What else could this be?

    • A paperclip could be a tiny hanger for a doll’s clothes.

    • A spoon could be a catapult.

    • A shoe lace could be a skipping rope for a lady bug.

  • This game trains your brain to think in more open-ended, creative ways.

5️⃣ Do Something “Pointless” (For Fun!) 🎉

  • Make a mini sculpture out of Blu Tack (or play dough, if that’s your thing!).

  • Stack random objects into a weird tower and see how many you can balance before they fall down.

  • Fold a piece of paper in a way you never have before.

  • The best creative ideas often come from play—so give yourself permission to just mess around.

Conclusion: Make Creativity Feel Normal & Fun

Creativity isn’t about making artistic masterpieces—it’s about exploring, playing, and being curious.

You don’t need special skills or talent—you just need to start noticing and trying small things.

Pick one of the ideas above and try it today! And if you do, I’d love to hear about it.

💬 Think of one small thing you’ve done lately that you now know is, in fact, creative.
